Healing Massage Massage is an ancient tool which facilitates healing, dating back to 2000 B.C. Much more than a luxury, massage is a conscious way of helping the body prevent disease by rejuvenating and stimulating all its systems. Stress has been scientifically proven to be the cause of all dis-ease, and the primary result of massage is relaxation. Specifically it helps all systems of the body to work better: the circulation is improved, the endocrine system becomes more balanced, muscular tension is reduced, stiffness, soreness, and tension headaches are relieved, underlying organs are affected, and an overall tonic and restorative effect results. In British Columbia, professional massage workers are not required to be certified in any particular program. Registered massage therapists have taken a three-year program, and have an agreement with extended health care companies to cover some of their costs to individuals who subscribe to the plan. There are many other types of bodyworkers, who have taken massage programs which are not accredited by the province, but are, nonetheless, wonderful training courses. There are even those who have never taken a particular massage course, but still do marvelous massages simply because these people are naturally gifted with their healing touch. Confusion often arises when people assume that all who do professional massage will be covered on their extended health benefits, but unfortunately this is not the case. That being said, all human beings have the inherent ability to heal with their hands if they wish to. An example is a mother who instinctively comforts her sick child by rubbing the child's stomach or their back. Everyone has felt the comfort of touch, of a hug from someone they care about. It is the energy of love along with the touch that helps to facilitate the healing. For more info contact Sharon Strang at spa@discoverkelowna.com
