Reiki The word Reiki is Japanese and translates as Higher Power (“rei”) life force energy (“ki”) therefore meaning “Higher Power guiding life force energy”. Reiki is a Japanese method of “laying on hands” rediscovered by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist in the late 1800’s. The healing technique of “laying on hands” is thousands of years old. Instinctively, when we first experience pain we tend to place our hands on the affected area to provide relief or comfort. A Reiki Practitioner has received “attunements” that open energy channels and clear obstructions, allowing the automatic flow of “universal energy” when they consciously connect with it and place their hands on themselves or others. Reiki energy can be directed with the mind, therefore the hands may be positioned near the physical body without touching it and still have the same positive effects. Reiki is not a religion, but is characteristically spiritual. The Reki Practitioner simply acts as a conduit for Reki energy which comes from the Universe and so the Practitoner cannot take credit for any healing that occurs. The recipient does not necessarily have to believe in “Reiki”, but must agree to the session and remain open to “receiving”. To gain optimal healing results, it is important for the recipient to accept responsibility for their healing and use the energy in any way that is best for his/her needs. Reiki is a gentle, holistic treatment that promotes relaxation, restoration, and stress reduction. This helps balance the body, mind, and spirit to support healing. Some people experience pain relief, the release of toxins, or emotions arising that may be a signal to attend to an obscured issue. Reiki sessions may invoke great clarity or be experienced as a glowing sanctuary that creates a feeling of safety and tranquility.
